ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Are you passionate about art and want to share this passion with others? Mystic Museum of Art (MMoA) has many meaningful volunteer opportunities for you to do just that! MMoA offers a diverse and creative environment in which volunteers can become engaged in a variety of rewarding experiences. Whether it is interacting with the public or working behind the scenes on different projects, MMoA has something for everyone.

MMoA is committed to fostering a collaborative and respective work environment with a goal of inspiring, engaging and connecting communities through the power of art. We encourage you to apply for any of the following volunteer positions that align with your interests, experience, and skills.

Visitor service assistants create a warm, welcoming environment by serving as the main point of contact and information for all visitors. Some of the duties include greeting and orienting all museum visitors, registering individuals for programs, and performing general administrative tasks to support MMoA staff. On occasion, the museum needs help with bulk mailing, organizing, filing, data entry and making mass phone calls.

Exhibitions receiving volunteers work with exhibition co-chairs and other volunteers to receive and deliver artworks for yearly exhibitions. Some of the duties include signing up artists for membership, helping artists with the registration and payment process, setup/breakdown of furniture, and receiving and storing artwork.

MMoA’s education department has a variety of teaching opportunities for volunteers to work alongside the lead instructor for various programs. Art classes are offered to students of all ages on-site in our studios, off-site through our outreach programming, and throughout the summer months during our busy camp season. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children in a creative and social environment. Volunteer your time and talent and enjoy all the many aspects of running an art class, from set up, prep work, and clean up to being a mentor to the students.

The museum
has several needs when it comes to maintenance of its building and grounds.
Some of these needs include exterior grounds maintenance and beautification,
minor repairs to building and equipment, and painting and mounting signs.

Event volunteers provide added value to MMoA’s events, exhibition openings/closings and fundraisers while enjoying working with the diverse and talented people that make our museum a vital part of the Mystic community.

MMoA offers a wide variety of public programs year-round. We are always looking for enthusiastic, outgoing volunteers to help staff our programs.

Distribution volunteers help distribute MMoA Brochures, flyers, and posters in the community.

Docents conduct visits for adults and school groups of all ages at the MMoA. Docent candidates are trained to look at, analyze, and discuss works of art to engage museum visitors in conversations about selected works in the galleries. If you enjoy art and discussing artwork with others, consider joining the docent program.

MMoA recruits local high school students to volunteer as teen docents, or to assist behind the scenes with clerical and administrative tasks that support the department’s education programs. Typical activities include preparing materials for art projects, photocopying, and program set up/ cleanup. It is a great opportunity to build leadership, collaboration, and organizational skills. Service hours can be documented and be submitted for school-based community service credits.
