Homeschool Programs / Fall

MAC provides homeschool educational experiences through a combination of discussion and hands-on work in our galleries and studios. All programs focus on the elements of art and design, teach art vocabulary, and utilize critical thinking skills.

2nd Tuesdays, 1pm – 3 pm

September 9
Realism
With Lisa Adams
Children learn what it takes to recreate an object from nature in pencil on paper. Artworks in the Regional and Aaberg solo exhibitions will be used for teaching concepts such as line-making, light source, and positive and negative space.

October 14
Digital Photography
With Brenda De Los Santos
Learn about the elements of art and design and examine composition as it relates to MAC’s photography exhibition.  Students should bring their own digital cameras for a photo shoot.

December 9
Book-making
With Annette Womack
Students learn a basic method of book making which includes stitching and folding.  The galleries will serve as inspiration for their design

Halloween Mask-Making

In conjunction with the Ocean Community YMCA Halloween Parade
Friday, October 31, 5pm – 5:45pm – FREE, all ages
Want to march in the Mystic Halloween Parade and need a last-minute costume? Drop in to our studios before the parade to make a mask. If you’re already in costume, make a spooky decoration instead. Parade starts promptly at 6pm from our parking lot.


Open Studio

Spend some creative time with your family. No reservations necessary, and no instruction. We provide the space and basic materials. No open studios on 9/1, 10/13, 12/1. Mondays, 1pm – 4pm $3 fee per person; Free for members with their own supplies.


Downtown Mystic Stroll

Tuesday, December 9, 5pm – 8pm Stroll the streets of Historic Downtown Mystic, listen to the carolers and see Santa. Buy your unique gift from our Holiday Fine Art exhibition and Artisan Gift Sale. Free.
