Winter Family Programs

Family Open Studios

Spend some creative time with your family. No reservations necessary, and no instruction. We provide the space and basic materials. No open studios on 1/19, 2/16.
Mondays, 1pm – 4pm
$3 fee per person; Free for members with their own supplies.

Winter Homeschool Programs

MAC provides homeschool educational experiences through a combination of discussion and hands-on work in our galleries and studios. All programs focus on the elements of art and design, teach art vocabulary, and utilize critical thinking skills. *Sessions marked will be conducted entirely in studio.

Book-making with Andrea Masullo

Students learn a basic method of book making which includes stitching and folding.  The galleries will serve as inspiration for their design

The Artist’s Toolbox with Kristen Thornton

Students will enjoy a full two hour-class in the studio, exploring color theory and composition with a variety of media.

My Space with Lisa Adams

Children will create images of their home or personal space using collage, construction materials and paint. Artworks from MAC’s “Home” themed exhibition will be used for discussing concepts about what makes a home.
February 10

Portraiture with Kristen Thornton

Learn to appreciate the many different ways artists see people in our Young at Art exhibition of children ages 0 to 18. Create a large-scale self-portrait in the studios
March 10

Earth-Day Art with Hilary Opperman

Children discuss sustainability as it is related to art and then create upcycled sculptures using colorful and everyday objects: an empty soda bottle becomes a fish, lion, bird, or another creature from the animal kingdom.

Movement in Art with Christine Poland & Lisa Adams

Students examine how artwork conveys movement, exploring MAC galleries with a dancer as their guide. Then they create a painting based on movement.
