Fall Family Programs

Family Open Studios

Spend some creative time with your family. We provide the space and basic materials. No reservations necessary. No open studios on 11/30, 12/28, 1/18, 2/15.

Mondays, 1pm – 4pm 
$3 fee per person; Free for members with their own supplies.

Winter/Spring Homeschool Programs

MAC provides homeschool educational experiences through a combination of discussion and hands-on work in our galleries and studios. All programs focus on the elements of art and design, teach art vocabulary, and utilize critical thinking skills. Appropriate for children ages 6 – 10.

Winter Fairies and Magical Beings
Mary Addison
Using wire, students will create 3D sculptures of their favorite winter inspired, magical beings. These creations are great gifts for the holiday season!

The Artist’s Toolbox
Lisa Adams
Students will enjoy a full two hour-class in the studio, exploring color theory and composition with a variety of media.

Black and White
Lisa Adams
Children learn how to render images using only a limited palette. The current exhibition, “Black and White”, serves up many examples.

Clay Sculpture
Mary Addison
Children learn about the sculptural properties of clay as well as solid construction techniques to create original hand-built pottery. Work in the Young at Art exhibition of children ages 0 to 18 serves as inspiration.

Earth-Day Art
Hilary Opperman
Children discuss sustainability as it is related to art and then create upcycled sculptures using colorful and everyday objects: an empty soda bottle becomes a fish, lion, bird, or another creature from the animal kingdom.

Nature and Art
Mary Addison
Students do a warm-up activity on MAC’s grounds doing a close observation of nature. In the studio, they create mixed media pieces inspired by natural forms and materials.
