Art ABC’s

Expose children to a variety of media and processes through projects that stimulate imagination and creativity. A different take-home project is explored each week.

Mixed-Up Chameleons
Gretchen Lally
Inspired by Eric Carle’s book, children discover how chameleons change color to blend in with their environments. Then, they create color changing wheels with blended watercolors.

Monet-Inspired Bridges
Mary Addison
Using watercolors, pastel and collage techniques, children learn about the Impressionism movement while recreating one of Monet’s famous paintings.

Sensory Painting

Students explore color and form using all five senses and everything but a paintbrush.

Cubist Self-Portraits
Mary Addison
Young children learn about abstraction while creating geometric self-portraits reminiscent of Pablo Picasso.

Puppet Mania

Children shape puppets from paper, clay and mixed media and then stage a performance with their puppets and music.

Halloween Haunted Houses

Students create their own spooky dioramas full of creaky furniture, black cats, and  ghosts.

Mixed Media Printing

Young children use found items like plastic animals and combs, as well as natural objects like leaves and pinecones to make prints on paper.

Matisse Fish Bowls

Using various collage techniques, children create fishbowl portraits reminiscent of Henri Matisse.

Colossal Castles

Working with corrugated cardboard in different shapes and sizes, young children practice fine motor skills while constructing creative towers.

Marvelous Masks
Mary Addison
Students practice the art of mask-making using a variety of fun media to create personalized masks. Class will end with a parade to show off the masks.

Hooray for Clay!

Students get their hands dirty as they create fabulous sculptures out of clay.

Ages 8 – 12

Drawing & Painting Fundamentals
Lisa Lyman Adams
Working from various sources, including still lifes and other reference material, young artists strengthen their skills in drawing and paint application. Foundational basics like form, color, space and line will be discussed and explored. The teacher encourages returning students to advance their abilities and develop their style.
