Art ABC’s

Expose children to a variety of media and processes through projects that stimulate imagination and creativity. A different take-home project is explored each week.

Young children create abstract animals while exploring the Surrealist technique of collage.

Superhero Gear

Students create a superhero alter ego for themselves, designing masks and capes to wear.

Pollock Painting

Young artists create large-scale pieces reminiscent of Jackson Pollock by splattering, squeezing and sponging on paint.

Ghoulish Globes

Students create their own spooky forests from recycled materials, complete with miniature cheese cloth ghosts.

Color Our World

Children learn color-mixing skills while making paints from natural materials like mud, spices, and fruits.

Try to Resist It!

Using crayons and oil pastels, children will draw on paper and then use watercolor over the entire surface to reveal the images underneath.

Painting with Sound

Young artists move around the room to music while painting a collaborative art piece based on sound and motion. Paintbrushes with jingle bells add to the sensory experience.

Students learn about repetition and pattern by tracing and arranging paper shapes, and by filling in the shapes with color.

Art Explorers

Inspire your child’s imagination and interest in art with fun educational projects in drawing, painting, and mixed media. Students learn fundamental art concepts and art vocabulary. Tuesdays, 4:15pm – 5:45pm

The Artist’s New Clothes

Inspired by the tale of The Paper Bag Princess, students use brown bags and other non-traditional materials as canvases for their own creative costume designs. Class will end with a mini fashion show.

Moveable Mummies

Children create wire and muslin mummies, and then practice their observation skills by positioning and sketching them in various poses – just in time for Halloween!

Children practice composition through the camera lens using a variety of engaging exercises. A digital camera should be brought to class.

Children create personalized journals using paint marbleizing techniques, and then begin to fill the first pages with poems.

Ages 8 – 12

Drawing & Painting Fundamentals with Lisa Lyman Adams

Working from imagination, still lifes and source material, young artists strengthen their skills in drawing and paint application. Color theory, basic perspective, composition and form will be discussed and explored. Teacher encourages the development of each student’s unique style so that returning students may progress in their abilities.
