Art ABC’s

Expose children to a variety of media and processes through projects that stimulate imagination and creativity. A different take-home project is explored each week.

Winter Wonderlands
Mary Addison
Using various craft materials, students create a magical 3-D world where forest creatures, winter fairies, snow, icicles and other wintery elements come together.

Northern Lights

Young artists create beautiful swirling designs reflecting the beauty of the aurora borealis using chalk pastels and silhouettes of snowmen, trees and other landscape shapes.

Faces in Clay

Children practice fine motor skills while sculpting human and animal expressions from clay.

Valentine’s Shapes & Colors

Students explore repeating patterns in nature using oil pastels and watercolors, making special pictures for loved ones.

Georgia O’Keeffe’s World

After reading the book, My Name is Georgia, by Jeanette Winter, students will gain a better understanding of how artists like Georgia O’Keeffe are inspired by the world around them by painting flowers and shells.

Kandinsky Trees

Students cut out circles and layer colored papers to create a tree collage reminiscent of the work of Wassily Kandinsky.

Mixed Media Printing

Young children use found items like plastic animals and combs, as well as natural objects like leaves and pinecones to make prints on paper.

Calder’s Kinetics

Young artists explore the mobiles of Alexander Calder while creating their own kinetic sculptures from colored wires, tin cans and more!

Art Explorers

Inspire your child’s imagination and interest in art with fun educational projects in drawing, painting, and mixed media. Students learn fundamental art concepts and art vocabulary. Tuesdays, 4:15pm – 5:45pm

Snowflake-inspired Mandalas

Students learn radial symmetry, geometry, line and color theory while producing unique winter-themed mandalas.

Using watercolors and salt and tape resist techniques, students create heartwarming Valentine’s Day Cards filled with imaginative winter scenes for someone special.

Exploring Modern Art
Kathryn Robinson
Students improve technical and critical thinking skills while exploring major movements in modern art beginning with Pointillism and ending with Pop Art. They will be introduced to the style by looking at the work of an artist that exemplifies the movement, and will then create art inspired by that artist’s work..

Drawing & Painting Fundamentals
Lisa Lyman Adams
Working from imagination, still lifes and source material, young artists strengthen their skills in drawing and paint application. Color theory, basic perspective, composition and form will be discussed and explored. The teacher encourages the development of each student’s unique style so that returning students may progress in their abilities.
