DISCOUNTS: Register Early!! All classes must meet minimum enrollment levels one week before start date to ensure that they will run. Registration continues to the date of the first class. Members receive a $5 discount when registering three (3) weeks before the starting date of the class.



July 5-9

Nature Art Camp with Laura Gaffke & DPNC

Nature has inspired artists for centuries - from natural collages to prints and paintings. Join instructors and campers from Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center for 3 days (Mon, Wed, Fri) at the Nature Center perusing woods, ponds & meadow – and 2 days (Tue, Thur) at the MACstudios bringing the wonders of the wild to canvas. Call the Nature Center at 536-1216 to register.

Great Green Sculpture with Amanda Oakes

Build your own 3D creature from recycled objects and clay. Build bigger each day or create new ones and paint them…green?! Bring recycled stuff from home if you like!

Mosaic Mirrors with Amanda Oakes

Design and create your own mosaic frames with pieces of glass, china, shells, beads, and buttons. Students may include their own collections from home in addition to our pieces.

Outdoor Abstract Expressionism with Jamie Jackson
Ages 6-9
1 - 3 pm

Celebrate messy, wild art and learn about abstract expressionism. Students will experiment with splatter painting, painting without brushes, and collaborative murals. Weather permitting, most of this art class will be held outdoors. Sunscreen, water bottles, and appropriate attire are recommended.

Ancient Mexican Architecture with Kathleen Godiksen

Learn about the earliest civilizations in the Western Hemisphere, the Olmecs, Mayans and Aztecs. Create authentic reproductions of the temples of Ancient Mexico and explore the games and traditions behind the birth of an ancient civiization.

A fun class for music lovers! Art and music periods through history often share common threads. Listen to inspiring music as you move through the jazz and blues age to classic rock and glam. Make wire sculpture, retro rock posters, and Elton John glasses.

Book Making & Illustration with Kristen Thornton

Work with varied media, subjects, and techniques in our galleries, studios, and “en plein air” throughout Mystic. Students will have a chance to work with a live model and will improve their critiquing skills and portfolios during this intensive week.

Travel around the globe and create art through different mediums and cultures. Students will create Native American picture writing, explore the Greek Archaic period, craft Mexican fiesta décor, and much more!

Become a photojournalist as we take you “on assignment” through our town! Capture the culture, nature, architecture, waterfront, and street life that defines Mystic in the summer. Students will focus on composition and rediscovering “how to see”. Students must have their own camera and should have prints of their pictures for a collage project on the last day.

Puppetrantz with Moe Gans-Pomerantz
Ages 7-11

Join a professional puppeteer and learn how to make amazing puppets! Discover different types of puppets from construction to character. Students will design, create, and perform their own original show under the guidance of a graduate of the Puppet Arts Program at UCONN. The last class will be extended thirty minutes for a performance and family reception.
